I myself am a huge Flaming Lips fan, and can't get enough of their music. I love that they aren't afraid to be different, but their music always maintains a certain level of accessibility, especially since 1999's The Soft Bulletin. I am a big fan of the sprawling arrangements and electronically-created soundscapes, and their mastery of the studio makes it seem easy. They are an extremely prolific band for one that has been along for so long and very rarely do I dislike the material they put out. And, as I'll say many times, I really do think that they are constantly changing, never simply trying to repeat their successes. To me, they are real, hard working musicians dedicated to their art. Sure, the music isn't so lyrically complex, but their songs are about life, death, love, hate in simple enough terms that they are personal and true. It would be easy to blow them off as a bunch of weirdos, but they have proven over and over that they are about more than putting on a show. They continue to push the envelope of experimental music, and their music will continue to influence new artists for years to come.
